View from El Morrow, the old Spanish fort in San Juan. Immediately below the fort you can see Cementerio de San Juan where some of San Juan's most famous residents are buried. Beyond the cemetery you can see a rough, isolated neighborhood of San Juan, and beyond that you can see Fuerte San Cristobal, San Juan's second fort. h, isolated neighborhood of San Juan, and beyond that you can see Fuerte San Cristobal, San Juan's second fort.
Lightness Perception and Lightness Illusions
"Every light is a shade, compared to the higher lights, till you come to the sun; and every shade is a light, compared to the deeper shades, till you come to the night."
—John Ruskin, 1879
Penn State - Obelisk of Stones - 5-28-08
Penn State Obelisk
The obelisk consists of 281 blocks of building stone from 139 different localities, mostly in Pennsylvania, and its components are arranged to represent the geologic column of the rocks of Pennsylvania, with the oldest rocks at the bottom and the youngest at the top. These stones include pre-cambrian rocks, the oldest in the state, to the youngest triassic rocks which were formed during the age of the dinosaurs. The obelisk was built in 1897.

A sculpture at the Downtown Mountain View Transit Center. This is a multi-modal center served by buses, Light Rail and Heavy Rail (Caltrain). I don't know the actual name of the piece, I will have to check the neck time I am in the area.

Fellow rider on the New York City subway. Winter 2008.
It beats me how he could sleep with the yowling noise of the train all around us, but he did. And it gave me cover. I saw this guy and was dying to take his picture but didn't want to attract attention. So to be safe, I held my camera in my lap and pretended to be fiddling with it while actually tripping the shutter. God bless that 12-20 lens! I knew I didn't have to aim too accurately to catch something, and that's exactly how it worked.
